Meet Our Pets
At Blackwell Primary School we are very lucky to have a number of school pets! All of our children have the chance to take part in the daily routines of making sure our pets are safe, well fed and in good health - and, most importantly, given lots of love!
The children are also given the chance to learn how to properly care for both our pets and other animals.
The Rabbits - Cream & Sprout
Our Rabbits, Cream and Sprout, first came to live with us in January 2024 after our Guinea Pigs retired. The have settled in to school life really well and love their new home.
They are looked after by the children on a rota. Each lunchtime, the Rabbit monitors make sure that there is enough food - and treats! - in the cage, and that the water dispenser is cleaned and re-filled. Each week, their cage is cleaned out.
During weekends and school holidays, the rabbits are looked after by members of the school community - we care very deeply for the welfare of our animals.
The children also make sure that Cream and Sprout get lots of love. When they first arrived, they were very shy- but they are settling in nicely now and love being stroked and cuddled.
The African Land Snails - Jack Sparrow and Ethel Douglas
Our African Land Snails, Ethel Douglas and Jack Sparrow, first came to live with us in February 2026. They are settling in to school life really well and getting used to their new home.
They are looked after by the children on a rota and children are learning how to take care of them.
During weekends and school holidays, they are looked after by members of the school community - we care very deeply for the welfare of our animals.
The children are excited to watch them grow bigger. One of them is an albino land snail and the other a traditionally coloured land snail.
